Samsung‘s June update is now available for Galaxy S23 users in the US. The new update, which brings several camera improvements, bug fixes, and the latest security patches, is also rolling out in China. The company has already pushed this update in Europe and some other Asian countries. The rollout has yet to reach Africa and Latin America. As reported by SamMobile, it’s also missing in some parts of Asia, including India.
The June update for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S234 Ultra in the US is currently limited to carrier-locked units. The new firmware build number for the phones is S91*USQU1AWF3. Samsung should soon cover factory-unlocked units with this release. The firmware version for China is not known at the moment. Users in Europe and some parts of Asia got the update with the build number S91*BXXU2AWF1.
Despite varying build numbers, the latest update for the Galaxy S23 series brings the same changes everywhere. Among those is a 2x zoom option for portrait shots. Samsung’s stock camera app originally only offered 1x and 3x modes for portrait photography. With this update, you’ll get a balance between the two existing options. Additionally, Samsung has improved its Night mode processing for better photos at night.
This update also fixes the “banana blur” issue on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+. Users have been reporting focusing problems that caused blurry patches in some photos captured using the primary camera. Last but not least, the Galaxy S23 lineup is getting improved haptics and system animations and transitions as part of the June update. Navigating through the system menus should feel a lot smoother now.
Galaxy S23 users in the US are getting this big June update
All of these goodies are now rolling out to Galaxy S23 users in the US, at least for carrier-locked users. This is in addition to more than 60 security patches that Samsung’s June SMR (Security Maintenance Release) brings. Users in the remaining few markets may also get this update over the next few days.
If you’re using a carrier-locked Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, or Galaxy S23 Ultra in the US, watch out for a notification about the OTA (over-the-air) rollout. Tap on the notification to install the update. You can also navigate to Settings > Software update and tap on Download and install to check for new updates manually. Samsung shouldn’t keep factory-unlocked Galaxy S23 users waiting for much longer.
