Google Pixel’s Night Sight camera mode became a synonym for great low light photos. It has been that way for quite some time now, and now Google is pushing things even further. Google has improved the Pixel’s Night Sight on third-party apps.
Pixel’s Night Sight is becoming even better on third-party apps
As you may recall, Google pushed out Pixel’s Night Sight feature to Snapchat and other third-party apps last year, with the Pixel Camera Services update. Well, the company has rolled out a new update, making things even better.
Pixel Camera Services v1.1 update is now rolling out, and with it, Google is adding support for autofocus, manual focus, and zoom in the NightSight extension. Yes, this will be compatible with third-party apps, thus making Night Sight even more useful in non-Google apps.
Do note that this update also brings support for Android 14. So, even before Google released the stable version of the software, this feature is supported. Third-party apps should be able to take advantage of these changes on the latest Android 14 beta.
Pixel Camera Services are compatible with the Pixel 6 & 7 series only
One thing to note is that Pixel Camera Services are only compatible with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series smartphones. If you have an older device, you won’t be able to take advantage of any of this.
This update has seemingly started rolling out in late May, but it was limited. At the moment, Google seems to be rolling it out widely, so you should get it soon if you haven’t already.
You will see a new update in the Google Play Store, amongst your apps. The ‘Pixel Camera Services’ app update is what you should pay attention to. You could easily miss it, though, if your phone is set to automatically update your apps.
