The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, the world’s first 5G smartphone, has officially reached its end of life. The Korean firm has withdrawn software support for the phone this month. It will no longer get new updates in the future, not even security patches.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S10 5G in February 2019, alongside the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+. While the latter three arrived on the market in March, the 5G model was slightly delayed and debuted in April in the company’s homeland South Korea. Despite the delay, the device still holds the title of the world’s first commercial 5G smartphone.
Over the past four years, the Galaxy S10 5G has received dozens of security updates, a few minor feature updates, and three major Android OS updates. The handset debuted running Android 9 Pie and picked up updates to Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12 during this period. Unfortunately, that’s all Samsung promised for the phone: three generations of Android OS upgrades and four years of security patches.
As such, the Galaxy S10 5G reached its end of life in April 2023. A couple of months later, Samsung has now officially stopped pushing new updates to the device. The phone no longer finds a place on the company’s update support list. It may still release one or two updates in case there’s a critical bug that needs fixing immediately. But don’t expect new security patches or feature updates for your aging device.
Note that Samsung has already withdrawn software support for the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+. As said earlier, these three models debuted in March 2023 and completed four years on the market this March. The Korean behemoth removed them from its update support list in April, along with the Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A30 mid-range handsets. The latter two also arrived in March 2019.
The Galaxy S10 Lite will get updates at least until January 2024
Samsung has a fifth model in the Galaxy S10 lineup. The Lite model debuted in January 2020 as the company’s first “affordable flagship”. It still has some life left in it. The Galaxy S10 Lite will get updates at least until January 2024. It’s done getting major Android OS upgrades, though. The device is not eligible for Android 14. It will end its life on Android 13-based One UI 5.1. We will let you know when the Galaxy S10 Lite gets new security updates. Meanwhile, if you’re using other Galaxy S10 models, you should consider upgrading to a newer device.
