Samsung‘s Galaxy Watch 6 series goes on sale tomorrow, August 11, running One UI 5 Watch out of the box. Based on Wear OS 4, the new One UI version brings several new features and improvements. The Korean firm will push those changes to the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 series as well. Ahead of that, Samsung has been running a One UI 5 Watch beta program for its older smartwatches. It has just released a new beta build, the fifth since the program began in early June.
The latest One UI 5 Watch beta update for the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 series comes with the firmware build number ZWH3 (last four characters). According to a screenshot shared by X/Twitter user @a_for_albert, the new version fixes the charging status error Quick panel. It also addresses Wi-Fi connection problems and watch face synchronization errors. A user comment under the post suggests the watches running the beta software had issues with properly categorizing Samsung-made watch faces.
The X post also suggests that the previous One UI 5 Watch beta build for Samsung’s 2021 and 2022 smartwatches caused problems with the Samsung Wallet. It caused unusual battery drain as well. Unfortunately, the new release doesn’t seem to have fixed either of these issues. Hopefully, the Korean firm is aware of these bugs and is working on fixing them. The next update, which may be a stable release considering that the Galaxy Watch 6 series arrives on the market tomorrow, should address them.
Samsung may soon release the One UI 5 Watch stable update
The relatively small changelog of the latest beta build also hints at a nearing stable update. As said earlier, Samsung has been beta testing One UI 5 Watch for its older Wear OS devices since early June. It has now released five beta updates for the watches. The changelog has gotten smaller with each new release. This suggests a public rollout of the big update is just around the corner.
That said, Samsung hasn’t officially announced the stable One UI 5 watch update for the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4. It did previously say that the new version will roll out publicly to these watches following the market release of the Galaxy Watch 6 series. But that doesn’t mean there can’t be a sixth beta release. We will have to wait and see what the company has in plans. Meanwhile, if you’ve enrolled in this beta program, watch out for a new update if you haven’t already received it.
