Galaxy Z Fold 2 gets the One UI 5.1.1 update in the US

Samsung’s One UI 5.1.1 update is now available for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the US. The 2020 book-style foldable joins the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in picking up the new One UI version stateside. The 2023 models already run One UI 5.1.1 out of the box.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is getting the One UI 5.1.1 update with the firmware build number F916USQU4KWH7 in the US (via SamMobile). That’s the build number for carrier-locked units of the foldable. The update is not yet live for the factory-unlocked units, but it shouldn’t be a long wait for those users.

One UI 5.1.1 brings a plethora of changes to the Samsung foldable. The Korean firm has made it easier to switch from the pop-up view to the split-screen view. The taskbar can now show up to four recent apps. The Flex Mode also now works with more apps. You can find the full changelog here.

Note that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 isn’t getting a new security patch with this update. The foldable remains on the August 2023 patch, even though Samsung has already pushed the September release to a few Galaxy devices. Since the phone is eligible for monthly security updates, the latest patch should be available to it later this month.

In the meantime, you can install the One UI 5.1.1 update to get a whole bunch of new features. Navigate to Settings > Software update and tap on Download and install to check for updates. Since it’s a major update, the OTA (over the air) package is huge. If you have limited mobile data, you should download the update using a Wi-Fi network.

The Galaxy Z Flip will also get the One UI 5.1.1 update in the US

The One UI 5.1.1 update will also be available for the Galaxy Z Flip (2020) in the US. Both 4G and 5G versions of the original clamshell foldable have already picked up the new One UI version in international markets, so users in the US may not have to wait much longer now. The original Galaxy Fold (2019) will not get One UI 5.1.1.

As far as the Android 14 update is concerned, neither model is eligible for it. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 also won’t get the latest Android version, which will come with Samsung’s One UI 6.0. All newer foldables will make the jump to One UI 6.0, which is currently in the beta stage. The Korean firm is expected to begin the stable rollout in late October or early November.
