Epic will boost revenue for game devs as part of its new program

Epic has announced a new program for game developers called ‘Now On Epic’ and it promises a sizeable revenue boost. The program is aimed at convincing developers and publishers to bring their older games over to the Epic Games Store to beef it up with more content. And in doing so Epic will offer a revenue boost of 12%.

Currently Epic offers devs 88% of the revenue from user spending. It keeps that other 12% for its cut. But going forward devs and publishers have a way to push that 88% revenue to 100% revenue using the Now On Epic program. Net revenue is boosted to the 100% for the first six months so the incentive isn’t a permanent bump. But six months is a decent chunk of time. Not to mention since this is a backlog program, it gives devs and publishers a way to reach new customers. And potentially breathe new life into game sales that may have otherwise plateaued a bit.

The Now On Epic program is eligible for pretty much any game available

If you’re a developer that has been pondering bringing your games to Epic’s storefront, this program might be worth more heavy consideration. It also helps that Epic is making just about every game eligible. The company says any game launched before October 31, 2023 will be eligible for the program. And since it’s October 16, that means even games that won’t launch for the next week or two can benefit. So long as they release before the very last day of the month.

There are some caveats to be aware of for devs that may be interested. For starters, not only do games have to have been released prior to October 31, 2023, but Epic requires at least three products be live. Meaning there needs to be at least three available games on another storefront. They also all need to have been released before the October 31 date. And devs need to agree to bring all three of the games over. This is also a minimum number. So devs can choose to bring over more games if they want to.

Epic says that games made available on third-party subscription services can be eligible as well if they meet the date requirement. Any games that are early access releases qualify too. Epic has done a great job at growing its store with most of the modern releases for the last few years since the storefront went live. But this new program is a chance for it to grow its back catalog of older titles.
