Leaked Pixel 8 Pro benchmark scores point to faster phones

The Pixel 8 Pro is due for an unveiling (officially) in just a couple of days and the leaks just keep on coming, this time with the benchmarks showcasing scores for the single-core and multi-score performance.

Google’s Pixel devices have never been the fastest, most performance-heavy devices out there. But there was a time where they were at the very least using top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. These days Google has shifted to using its own in-house Tensor chips. This has been good for Google’s bottom line and it has helped with deeper AI integration. But in the process Google’s Pixel phones have taken a hit to performance. For some this isn’t an issue but for others it was less than ideal.

The good news it seems is that Google’s latest iteration of Tensor proves to be faster than the older chipsets. At least based on the leaked benchmarks. Keep in mind that benchmark scores are not the end-all-be-all and their results could vary wildly from real-world use. Your day-to-day use cases might be vastly different from scenarios that are engineered for benchmarks. With that in mind, the scores nevertheless paint a good picture for those looking to upgrade. Because there does appear to be an improvement.

Pixel 8 Pro benchmarks show strong single-core and multi-core scores

Based on the benchmarks, which were spotted by Revegnus (via PhoneArena), the Pixel 8 Pro gets a single-core score of 1760 and a multi-core score of 4442. These are definitely better scores than the Pixel 7 Pro from 2022 which suggests that you should see some smoother performance when using the new phone.

That doesn’t mean all users will notice the difference however. While an improvement the scores are not vastly higher than last year’s phone with scores of 1444 and 1793. Still, an improvement is an improvement even if only incremental. We’ll know for certain just how much of an improvement the new Tensor chip is once these phones launch later this month.
