Google's Pixel phones are getting traction, sales numbers show

The latest sales numbers regarding Google’s Pixel phones have been shared, and things are looking good for the company. Google actually did really well last year, based on this report.

Google’s Pixel phones are seemingly getting traction, the Pixel 7 sales numbers are an improvement

The information is coming from IDC’s VP, Francisco Jeronimo. He said that Google shipped out 37.9 million smartphones between 2016 and 2023. The thing is, a good chunk of those sales occurred last year, as Pixel sales jumped up to “double digits” in 2022.

Google sold around 27.6 million smartphones right before the Pixel 7 launched. The company managed to sell around 10 million Pixel 7 series units, which is quite a feat for the company.

Back in 2018, the company sold almost 4 million phones, then in 2019 that number jumped to 7.2 million handsets. Last year, the number crossed the 10 million mark, it would seem.

That seems like nothing compared to what Apple is doing, as the company is estimated to ship over 224 million iPhones per year. If you look at it like that, you can’t really compare the two. Apple’s iPhones have been around for ages, and are extremely popular around the globe.

The very first Pixel-branded smartphone landed back in 2016

Google’s Pixel phones have been around since 2016, and many people are still not familiar with them. Their availability is still limited to some markets, and they’re still considered enthusiast smartphones, to a degree.

The sales are constantly increasing, though, and if Google manages to keep this momentum, and keep releasing compelling smartphones year in, year out, the road ahead could be rather favorable for Pixels.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro launch reactions do seem mostly positive. So, it remains to be seen how well do the phones perform, and how many of them will Google sell. If they end up living up to the hype, they could outsell Google’s Pixel 7 series.
