Earlier this year Sony announced PS5 game streaming was coming and now there’s an official target launch date for the US as well as other regions. For those unaware, PS5 game streaming is something subscribers of PlayStation Plus Premium have been asking for since Sony revamped the subscription plan to include three tiers.
Cloud streaming was an option back then. But only for titles from the classics catalog. Which none of the PS5 games are a part of. But that’s all changing relatively quickly. Because starting October 16 Sony rolled out PS5 game streaming to players in Japan. This week’s launch may not include players in the US or in Europe, but Sony is planning to have the feature rolled out to both those regions before November. So there’s not much of a wait left now.
PS5 game streaming should arrive in the US by October 30
It’s worth keeping in mind that October 30 is just Sony’s target launch date. There is a possibility that it could miss this target and the feature rollout could be pushed back. But for now things appear to going smoothly. For players in Europe Sony says the feature should arrive by October 23.
In addition to mentioning target launch dates, Sony also expands on what players can expect in terms of available titles. Game streaming will include both digital PS5 games you own and those that will be added to the Game Catalog. It will not however include disc versions of games. Game trials can be streamed as well though. This will also all be tacked on to the already available streaming options in the Classics Catalog.
Sony also notes that you can access the streaming in a couple of different ways. Either through PlayStation Plus on the dashboard or from your library if you own the game where you’ll see a “streaming option.” Games can be streamed in multiple resolutions including 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 4K, and with options for up to 60 frames per second.
