The Crunchyroll Game Vault offers free games for Premium members

Crunchyroll has announced a new feature for premium members called the Game Vault that brings free games to Android and iOS users. Games will be anime-themed and be a mix of paid and free titles. To kick things off Crunchyroll is tossing in five games. This includes three that are making a debut on mobile devices exclusive for those with Game Vault access – River City Girls, Wolfstride, and Captain Velvet: The Jump+ Dimensions. The two remaining games include Inbento and a critically acclaimed visual novel named Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery.

That being said, you’ll need a premium membership to play any of the games. Even the ones that are free. It’s a little extra incentive to sign up for Crunchyroll and become a premium member. There is one tiny caveat, and as a result it might change how you think about the new feature. The Game Vault is only accessible to Mega fans and Ultimate fans. If you’re unfamiliar with how the premium memberships work, there are three tiers. And each one adds a little more than the last. The Mega and Ultimate fan tiers are the middle and top-end plans at $9.99 and $14.99 a month. And you’ll need one of those two to access the Game Vault.

The Crunchyroll Game Vault games have no ads or in-app purchases

If for any other reason, the Game Vault games might be worth it for the sheer fact that there are no ads and no in-app purchases. That means even the free games will be giving you the full experience. One really neat game is Inbento. This is a food-themed puzzle game where you play a mother cat who makes bento box lunches for her children. It used to be available from development studio Afterburn for $2.99. With that said, getting it for free from Crunchyroll if you subscribe as a Mega fan is a pretty good treat.
