The Google TV Streamer will be the next-gen product in the “Chromecast” lineup. There was some speculation about the device replacing the Chromecast with Google TV 4K, although this may not be the case. According to a new leak, the Google TV Streamer could cost twice as much as the company’s current TV dongle. This would put it in a higher range of price and performance.
The Google TV Streamer might cost a lot more than we thought
As reported by Dealabs, the Google TV Streamer could be priced at €119.99 in France. The price could be similar in most EU countries, with some possible slight variations in some. For reference, the Mountain View giant sells the Chromecast with Google TV 4K for €69.99 in France.
The report adds that the device is expected to launch tomorrow (August 6). However, it will not be available to buy until late September. Considering the price difference between the company’s first set-top box and its dongles, it’s possible that this won’t be a direct replacement but rather a new high-end lineup of streaming devices. In the meantime, the classic Chromecast with Google TV lineup would continue to be sold as cheaper alternatives. That said, this is just speculation, though it would be great if the company released new-gen Google TV dongles in the future.
According to a recent leak, the Google TV Streamer would bring some notable improvements. The set-top box format would allow space for more ports, such as Ethernet and USB-C. It would even integrate a Thread radio for your Matter-supported device ecosystem. The Pixel 9 series would also bring a Thread radio to become the hub of your Smart Home setup. The additional possibilities would justify the extra cost of the Google TV Streamer, though it’s not yet known how powerful it will be.
Some Google products allegedly delayed
Recent leaks suggest delays in the shipping of some Google products. For example, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold shipments would begin in early September. Plus, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 would make their buyers wait until late September. Lastly, the Google TV Streamer may only be available in a “Porcelain” colorway.
