Meta makes its AI labels harder to find for some posts

As you may know, companies are working on creating labels that let people know if a bit of media has been generated using AI. One of those companies is Meta, but for some reason, the company made a slight change that might make some people upset. Meta made its AI label less visible for some posts.

People don’t like being deceived. Sure, it’s extremely easy to identify much of the AI-generated media online. AI still hasn’t grasped that a human typically has up to 32 teeth, not 50! However, some images and videos produced are realistic, and it’s always frustrating being fooled into thinking that they’re real. This is one of the reasons why proper labeling is important.

Meta will make its AI labels less visible

Since Meta started labeling AI-generated content, its labeling system has gone through some changes. It would first use a “Made with AI” label, but the company faced some backlash from people whose content was erroneously given that label. It was flagging real images that were edited with AI-powered tools.

So, the company changed it to “AI Info”, and that would sit right under the image in question on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. So, there wouldn’t be any doubt if you come across an image that looks AI-generated.

However, the company came out and talked about a change it made to its labeling. According to the company, if an image is fully AI-generated, you’ll still see the label under the image. However, if the image was edited using AI, then the label will be hidden under the menu. It will exist close to the bottom of the menu.

We can’t help but to wonder if this was because of creators not wanting their images associated with AI-generated content. If you’re putting in the work to go out and take the image, and you use a tool to edit it, you’re still a creator, so it makes sense that you wouldn’t want a big “AI Info” sticker under your work. So, that might be the reason for this.
