Google Pixel 9 Pro leaves the Competition on “Low Power Mode”
Sneakily, the Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, both launched with really great battery life. Which is a stark contrast from the Pixel 8 series from last year. And our readers took notice, voting it as the Best Battery Life Smartphone of 2024. It won 37.1% of the vote, with the OnePlus 12 coming in second place with 26.9% of the vote. Rounding out the votes was OPPO Find X8 Pro and HONOR Magic 6 Pro.
So how did Google improve the battery life so drastically this year? Well, it really comes down to a more efficient Tensor G4 processor, and a much improved modem. With earlier Pixel devices using Tensor, the modem was always a pretty huge issue. That often caused the phone to heat up, and thus deplete the battery much faster. Google also improved the thermals, so the phone really does not heat up much at all.
I’ve been using the Pixel 9 Pro off-and-on for the last few months, and continue to be amazed at how good the battery life is.
Pixel 9 Pro isn’t just about battery life
Of course, with Google, it’s more than just battery life. The Pixel 9 Pro series also got a smaller size this year, which is identical to the Pixel 9 Pro XL, aside from the screen and battery size. That includes the ultrawide, primary and telephoto cameras.
Google has also included loads of AI features, what a surprise. This includes Pixel Studio, where you can generate your own images with ease. While there are some guardrails on Pixel Studio, you can still do just about anything with it. Google has also added loads of great photo editing AI tools, like the ability to remove people or objects, change the skies and so much more.
And now, thanks to the improved battery life, you can do more of this, and not need to use the charger.
