Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Camera Reigns Supreme
Kicking off this year’s Reader’s Choice Awards, we have the Best Smartphone of 2024, which goes to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. In our poll on X, the Galaxy S24 Ultra won 66% of the vote, with the Google Pixel 9 Pro (XL) coming in second place at 16% and the OnePlus 12 in third with 13% of the vote. And it’s not hard to see why. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best phone that Samsung has ever made. That is, until the Galaxy S25 series is announced next month.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra was announced alongside the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus back in January, just after CES. It was an early contender for smartphone of the year, and despite seeing stiff competition all year long, it did manage to pick up Best Smartphone of 2024, among AndroidHeadlines’ Readers.
Samsung’s exclusive Gorilla Glass Armor is a game-changer
These days, most smartphones have all of the same specs, features and even cameras. So how can a smartphone maker differentiate itself among all of the competition? Gorilla Glass Armor. This is a new form of Gorilla Glass from Corning, which is anti-reflective. Now this might not sound like a huge deal, but in reality, it makes a huge difference in day-to-day usage. Especially when using the phone outdoors. Samsung does have an exclusive on Gorilla Glass Armor, which is why we have not seen it on any other smartphone, yet.
On top of that, Samsung did equip the Galaxy S24 Ultra with a 200-megapixel primary camera. That’s a slight upgrade over the Galaxy S23 Ultra which also had a 200-megapixel sensor, however this is a new sensor. Samsung also ditched the 10x telephoto lens for a higher resolution 5x telephoto lens, which also allows for 10x zoom via a digital crop.
Finally, the Galaxy S24 Ultra was one of the first phones in the US to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and of course, it is the “Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy” which basically means that this is an overclocked chip, so it’s a bit faster than other phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and also scores better in benchmarks.
This is why the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra won the AH Reader’s Choice Award for Best Smartphone of 2024.
