The charging speed Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 models will offer may disappoint you. Well, at least if the latest report is to be believed, and chances are it’s accurate.
The iPhone 17 lineup’s charging speed may disappoint you
The information comes from Jeff Pu, an Apple supply chain analyst. He said, in a note with investment firm GF Securities, which was obtained by MacRumors, that the entire iPhone 17 lineup will support up to 35W wired charging speeds.
Just to be clear, he was talking about the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Air is tipped to replace the ‘Plus’ model this year.
The iPhone 16 models managed to achieve sustained charging speeds of around 30W. The peak charging speeds that were reported were at 38W. The thing is, the phones did not change at this speed at all times. That was the ultimate peak that was reached with some chargers. It happened “under extremely heavy loads such as benchmark testing or playing games”, said Phone Arena.
Apple will stick with the same formula from the iPhone 16 series
The peak charging speeds under normal circumstances were in the 35W range. So, it seems like the iPhone 17 series will stick to the same formula. Apple may not improve charging in any way.
We live in the era of 100W charging. Some phones go above and beyond that, but 80-100W charging has become standard on a number of flagship smartphones from China. Even some mid-rangers offer such charging.
Those same flagship phones also usually offer wireless charging of around 50W. So… this does come as a bit of a disappointment. It’s per course for Apple, though, and chances are that not many people expected a notable improvement in the charging department.
All four iPhone 17 series devices are expected to launch in September.
