Galaxy Z Fold 7's new S Pen may be thicker than previous models

Samsung will launch its new foldable phones later this year with potential new members to the Fold and Flip series. Leaks have already revealed a few things about the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7. The company is once again betting on continuity in these devices by refining the current base, according to reports. That said, the S Pen on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be thicker than previous generations.

Fans of the Z Fold series and the S Pen might be disappointed with the upcoming launch. According to recent reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have a “downgraded support” for Samsung’s classic stylus. It is not yet known exactly what functions the accessory might lose. It is possible that we will see something similar to what happened in the new Galaxy S25 Ultra. That is, Samsung could get rid of the Bluetooth chip on the S Pen, losing the Air Actions and the remote camera shutter.

Samsung to launch thicker S Pen designed for Galaxy Z Fold 7, tipster claims

A recent leak revealed that Samsung will be releasing a new S Pen this year. The accessory could be designed specifically for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, fueling rumors about the potential loss of features. At the time, tipster PandaFlash 𝕏 claimed that Samsung’s new stylus will have an improved tip to offer a better writing experience. However, he did not reveal more details about it. Now, in a subsequent post, the same source offered a small bit of additional information.

According to the report, the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s S Pen will be thicker than previous generation models. This is in contrast to what Samsung is looking for in a possible removal of features in the accessory. For example, the South Korean giant removed the Bluetooth chip from the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen but made it slightly lighter. Perhaps the new design is in favor of more comfortable use.

Let’s remember that the Galaxy Z Fold does not have a dedicated slot to store and keep the stylus. Users must separately purchase the accessory and a special case. So, this time Samsung is not limited to designing an S Pen that fits inside the device without affecting the internal structure. This gives the firm more room to design the accessory as they really want.

Samsung’s Fold series devices won’t lose S Pen support, for now

Either way, it might be better to have a downgraded S Pen than not having support at all. Early leaks about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 suggested the device will be based on the Galaxy Z Fold SE. If you’re not aware, the latter isn’t compatible with Samsung’s stylus, leading many to fear something similar might be coming to the next-gen Z Fold. However, it looks like that won’t be the case.
