Qualcomm & IBM to bring AI-powered workflow optimization

Qualcomm has several important announcements in store for MWC Barcelona 2025. In the days leading up to the event, the company has been teasing some of its innovations. Now, Qualcomm has teased a bit about its progress in implementing artificial intelligence for business environments alongside IBM.

Qualcomm has partnered with big names in key segments to develop new technologies. The North American firm has made significant progress in implementing AI for telecommunications, working alongside Nokia. Now IBM is the chosen partner to work on artificial intelligence solutions that help businesses save time and optimize costs.

Qualcomm to integrate IBM’s AI-powered workflow optimization tools into its enterprise tools

The agreement involves the integration of IBM’s watsonx.governance into Qualcomm’s suite of business tools. IBM describes Watsonx as “end-to-end AI governance.” It is designed to easily integrate into existing platforms and optimize workflow. The power of artificial intelligence not only allows businesses to save costs but also facilitates compliance with regulatory requirements. Watsonx is one of the services powered by IBM’s Granite AI models that are now compatible with Qualcomm’s AI Inference Suite and AI Hub.

By optimizing IBM’s watsonx.governance and Granite models for use with Snapdragon and Qualcomm Dragonwing platforms, we’re helping businesses capitalize on the transformative power of AI no matter where the data resides. It’s a great example of the power of partnership,” said Ritika Gunnar, general manager, data and AI at IBM.

Durga Malladi, senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm, also expressed satisfaction with the collaboration. “This collaboration enables businesses to deploy AI solutions that are not only fast and personalized but also come with robust governance, monitoring, and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to enhance the overall reliability of AI from edge to cloud.”

IBM’s AI enterprise models can now run on Snapdragon 8 Elite

Thanks to the work of both companies, the Granite Guardian 8B and Granite 3.1 8B AI models can run on a Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered reference platform. Qualcomm is also integrating them into the Dragonwing and On-Prem Appliance tools from its AI Inference Suite. All of these tools will enable more efficient workflow and optimize decision-making.

Lastly, Qualcomm has also announced that its Cloud AI Accelerators suite has received Red Hat OpenShift. This makes it much easier to deploy at scale on IBM’s suite of software applications. In fact, this is what enables the new support for Watsonx governance in its products.
