The Google Pixel 9 series now official, and it has quite a few changes compared to its predecessors. Google has not only introduced a “small” pro model, but it has also upgraded the charging speeds which included offering a new 45W charger. Of course, all four models do also sport upgraded screens this year – especially the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
But one question you’re likely asking before pre-ordering is, how fast can these new Pixel 9 phones charge? Well, we have that answer.
Google Pixel 9 series wired charging speeds
The Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro sport the same charging speed, across all the ways you can charge them. Which is 27W. That is the same as the Pixel 8 last year. Which Google says you can charge up to 55% in 30 minutes with its own 45W charger.
Moving to the Pixel 9 Pro XL, this one charges at a max speed of 37W when using the new Google 45W USB-C charger. Google also says that it will charge up to 70% in the same 30 minutes.
Finally, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold charges at 21W. That’s pretty slow, especially for a foldable. Google doesn’t actually say how much of a charge you’ll get in 30 minutes, other than just “hours of power in minutes of charge”. Keep in mind that this is a 4,650mAh capacity battery, so it is a tiny bit smaller than the Pixel 9 and about 6W slower than the Pixel 9 charging speed.
Google Pixel 9 series Wireless charging speeds
Once again, Google is doing different wireless charging speeds among its entire Pixel 9 lineup. So the vanilla Pixel 9 is going to sport 15W wireless charging. While the Pixel 9 Pro has 21W and the Pixel 9 Pro XL has 23W. The Pro models likely have a faster wireless charging speed due to the vapor chamber inside, which will help to keep the phones cool. Remember that wireless charging can produce a lot of heat.
Finally, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has 8W wireless charging. That’s quite slow for a battery that is 4,650mAh. But keep in mind, with foldables like this one, the battery is actually two separate batteries. So, this slower speed is likely to keep the battery from getting too hot and allow it to last longer in the long run.
Google Pixel 9 series reverse wireless charging speeds
The Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL all support reverse wireless charging. Google doesn’t typically publish the speeds for reverse wireless charging, but it’s likely about 4.5W. This isn’t meant to charge another phone, but accessories like the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 – the new Pixel Watch 3 likely won’t work this way, as previous models did not.
