Google has announced three Android 12 Developer Previews up to this point, and one Beta build of the OS, which we’ll show you how to install in this article. The very first Android 12 Developer Preview for its Pixel phones arrived in February, the second followed in March, while the third one arrived in April. The very first Android 12 Beta build launched today, and you can already try it out! Best of all, the procedure is a lot more straightforward than when you flash a Developer Preview build on your Pixel. Google makes it extremely easy to enroll in the Android Beta program, and install a Beta build. All you’ll need is a Windows-based or a macOS-based computer. Be warned, though, Android 12 Beta build is not the final software, as its name says. Google’s Android Beta builds are usually extremely close to the final software, but there could still be some bugs in there. In any case, we don’t recommend you to install it on your primary smartphone. If you have a secondary phone in form of an eligible Pixel device, then, by all means, go ahead. These are the compatible Google Pixel smartphones: Pixel 3 / 3 XL, Pixel 3a / 3a XL, Pixel 4 / 4 XL, Pixel 4a / 4a 5G, and Pixel 5.
This is how you can install Android 12 Beta 1 on your Pixel phone
The first thing you’ll need to do, is go to Google’s Android Beta program website. There, you’ll need to sign up for the Android Beta Program. The program should be up and running for Android 12 as we speak.
You’ll need to sign into your Google account when the website prompts you. Once you do that, Google will scan devices with which you’re logged into the account you signed into. Needless to say, the Pixel you want to install Android 12 Beta 1 to needs to be logged into the same account. You will spot that device on the list, when you get to the next page. From there, you can simply click in order to enroll in the Beta program, just make sure you select the right phone (in case you have more than one Pixel).
That’s basically it. At that point, you can navigate to Settings -> System -> Advanced -> System Update, and check for available updates. Android 12 Beta 1 should become available, if it’s not, it will soon after. You should wait for a few minutes, it should be up by then.
Once you install it, you will be eligible to get the next beta build as well. You will get it via OTA (Over The Air) update, as you would a stable build. Once again, do note that this is just a beta build, and it’s not completely stable. Google’s Beta builds are usually really stable, but it’s not stable software, so we don’t recommend you to use it on your daily driver.
