Wild Card; Hurkacz Exits Andy Murray said on Thursday that coming to terms with his impending retirement from tennis is "hard" and that he would ideally "play forever" were it not for the injuries he has suffered during his career. The two-time Wimbledon champion said on June 27 that if was able to play at Wimbledon -- as he has did on Thursday -- then he would likely retire after the Paris Olympics. Murray faced a race against time to be fit to play in his final tournament at the All England Club after undergoing a procedure to address a spinal cyst on June 22. He subsequently withdrew from his first-round singles match on Tuesday, but confirmed that he would play in the men's doubles. However, the 37-year-old's Wimbledon farewell got off to a difficult start on Thursday as he was knocked out of the men's doubles in the first round alongside his older brother, Jamie, with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 loss to Australian pair Rinky Hijikata and John Peers. Speaking after the match, Murray discussed coming to terms with the end of his playing career. "I would love to keep playing, but I can't physically. It is too tough now. All of the injuries, they've added up. ... They haven't been insignificant. But yeah, I want to play forever," Murray told the BBC. "I love the sport. It's given me so much, taught me loads of lessons over the years that I can use for the rest of my life. But yeah, I don't want to stop, so it is hard." Murray also hinted that he might be interested in taking up coaching in his post-playing career. Asked if he was a good tennis watcher, Murray said: "It depends who I'm watching. I hate watching my brother. I find it really difficult to watch my brother play. But yeah, I love tennis. I watch it all the time. I'd probably be more comfortable sitting up there in a coaching box than somewhere else." Murray is due to take to the court again this week after Wimbledon organisers announced on Wednesday that he had entered the mixed doubles draw alongside fellow Brit Emma Raducanu after the pair were given a wild-card entry. The mixed doubles competition begins on Friday. 1385adb1 C137 488d 947b Eac128ff2011 Large16x9 Thumb 66330 ?1627512502680 East Chattanooga Community Center DSC 0400 S Chattanooga Aerial 1920.webp 102721819 IMG 3286 T600 ?4326734cdb8e39baa3579048ef63ad7b451e7676 Warming Centers 2022 23 1 1 768x1187 Maxresdefault 102890134 IMG 20230713 082138408 HDR T600 ?4326734cdb8e39baa3579048ef63ad7b451e7676 Caption ?w=800&h=600&s=1 Maxresdefault SocialMediaImage 20231115142016 1554903057771?e=2159024400&v=beta&t=IDBClw3SxvhaavTf9AK VxF6sQ8Pz03MGs4EmyMowts 102854442 IMG 0559 T600 ?4326734cdb8e39baa3579048ef63ad7b451e7676 20231127125115 031521b00rockcitycovidpreca3754907669 T600 ?4326734cdb8e39baa3579048ef63ad7b451e7676 DSC 9302 2 Copy Shot 2023 Starting Nba Centers 1144118 1663716077 Chatt Photo Chattanooga Visitor Informatio ?w=1200&h=1200&s=1 Experience Chattanooga Featured Listing B27192205056b36 B2719436 5056 B365 Ab0493a5b0f2001f Chattanooga CTC Meetings Image3 294706856 6025738914107223 6399092563859738052 N 7eac8bc2 C9ec 44bc 9031 Bbdce1f10667 Large16x9 Center2.PNG 1621980656 071518b01 Grandparents 6 Gs T600 ?4326734cdb8e39baa3579048ef63ad7b451e7676 VRGp2yC Asset Mezzanine 16x9 DSAgMhx ?focalcrop=1200x630x50x10&format=auto Chattanooga DCA OUR SPOMSORS EPB ?url=https K1 Prod Sixam City.s3.us East 2.amazonaws.com Brightspot 36 94 4225558449aba4884e177b21024c Unnamed DJZyDJ3 Asset Mezzanine 16x9 J3iWOSj ?focalcrop=1200x630x50x10&format=auto TheEdwin Pikoj6e8ybfr2b32k9jv48avbr4oo6wblfbtuwbda8 A2dda50d29a48f75482f6f2b80fb4f04 ?media Id=618830600289236 Maxresdefault
