How Each NHL Team Can Earn An A+ This Offseason
The 2024 NHL draft will take place at The Sphere in Las Vegas on June 28 and 29. Hundreds of prospects will be selected over the course of the seven-round event, and the first 16 picks have been determined by way of the NHL draft lottery.
After finishing the 2023-24 season with the worst record, the San Jose Sharks had the best chance to win the draft lottery -- and did so. The Chicago Blackhawks -- who won the draft lottery and selected Connor Bedard No. 1 last year -- have pick No. 2.
Here is a list of the first 30 picks, which will be updated after the full draft order is known following the end of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Blackhawks' selection at No. 20 is the result of the March 18, 2022 trade that sent Brandon Hagel to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Senators' selection at No. 25 is the result of the Boston Bruins' trade on March 2, 2023 to acquire Tyler Bertuzzi from the Detroit Red Wings, and subsequently the Red Wings' trade on July 9, 2023 to acquire the signing rights to Alex DeBrincat. The Canadiens' selection at No. 26 is the result of the Feb. 2, 2024 trade that sent Sean Monahan to the Winnipeg Jets. The Flames' selection at No. 28 is the result of the Jan. 31, 2024 trade that sent Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks. The Ducks' selection at No. 31 is the result of the trade on March 6, 2024 that sent Sam Carrick, Ty Taylor and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Oilers.
