Nothing Phone (1) Is Official With Unique Design, 120Hz Display & More

Nothing has finally announced its first-ever smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1) is now official. The company has been hyping up this smartphone for quite some time now, and it’s now official. Considering how much information surfaced ahead of time, many of you had a pretty good idea as to what was coming.

The Nothing Phone (1) is finally official with unique design, LED notification lights & more

The Nothing Phone (1) does look quite unique. The phone has flat sides, and the same goes for its front and back side. It also comes with uniform bezels, and a display camera hole in the top-left corner.

What makes it look truly unique is its back side. The device has a see-through glass panel on the back, under which you’ll see a number of LED notification lights. Nothing refers to these as ‘Glyphs’.

These LED notification lights can actually light up when you receive messages, they can be used to perform a light show when your phone is ringing, and more. You can even see the battery level of your phone when you plug in your charger, as the bottom LED light will indicate it. There are a number of use cases for these.

The device comes in both 8GB & 12GB RAM variants

In terms of specs, this is a mid-range device. It is fueled by the Snapdragon 778G+ SoC, while it comes in both 8GB and 12GB RAM variants. Two 8GB RAM models are available, with 128GB and 256GB of storage. The 12GB RAM variant includes 256GB of storage.

A 6.55-inch fullHD+ display is also included, and it offers a 120Hz refresh rate (adaptive 60Hz-120Hz), with a 240Hz touch sampling rate. This display gets quite bright, up to 1,200 nits of brightness at its peak.

There are two cameras on its back, a 50-megapixel SonyIMX766 one, and a 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 camera. A single 16-megapixel unit can be found on the phone’s front side (Sony’s IMX471 sensor). We’ll talk more about those in our specs post.

33W wired & 15W wireless charging is supported

A 4,500mAh battery is also a part of the package, while the device supports both wired and wireless charging. 33W PD3.0 wired charging is offered, as is 15W Qi wireless charging with dual charging support. 5W reverse wireless charging can be used to charge other devices. Do note that the charging brick is not included, though.

The device does include an in-display fingerprint scanner, while it also comes with two SIM card slots. It supports 5G connectivity, and the same goes for facial scanning, for which it uses its front-facing camera.

Nothing promises 3 years of Android updates, 4 years of security patches

Android 12 comes pre-installed on the device, along with the Nothing OS, and Nothing Launcher. Do note that Nothing promised 3 years of Android updates for the device, and 4 years of security patches (every 2 months).

The phone measures 159.2 x 75.8 x 8.3mm, while it weighs 193.5. The device will be on offer in markets across Europe and Asia, but it won’t make its way to North America, South America, or Australia.

The 8GB RAM model with 128GB of RAM costs €469, while the 8GB RAM model with 256GB of storage is priced at €499. The 12GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage will set you back €549.
