Summary: OPPO has finally announced the Find X8 Ultra. This is the company’s camera phone beast, set to compete with the vivo X200 Ultra and Xiaomi 15 Ultra. It’s incredibly thin, despite having four 50MP cameras and a 6,100mAh capacity battery. It’s also the first OPPO device powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
OPPO has just announced its latest “Ultra” phone, the Find X8 Ultra. This joins the Find X8 lineup, which was unveiled late last year, as the new top-of-the-line smartphone from OPPO, with its best camera system ever.
The Find X8 Ultra is the first Find X8 series to sport the Snapdragon 8 Elite. We’re looking at the 8-core model, which means it’s also the first OPPO phone to use the full Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, as Find N5 used the 7-core version. This is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage.
OPPO has outfitted this phone with a stunning, flat 6.82-inch AMOLED display. This is an LTPO display that will go from 1Hz to 120Hz, with outdoor brightness of 1600 nits. All are powered by a 6100mAh capacity battery, with 100W SUPERVOOC wired charging and 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging. OPPO also tossed in 10W reverse wireless charging for good measure.
OPPO’s Next-Gen Penta Camera System
With the Find X8 Ultra, OPPO is debuting its Next-Gen Penta Camera System. This includes a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, a 50-megapixel 1-inch primary sensor, a 50-megapixel 3x Telephoto sensor, and a 50-megapixel 6x Telephoto Sensor. On the front, OPPO has included a 32-megapixel sensor with autofocus. This entire camera system was of course, co-developed with Hasselblad once again.
The 1-inch sensor, which is the star of the show, is the new Sony LYT-900 sensor. This is the largest and most advanced sensor in any smartphone. Which now has an upgraded 8-element lens, which includes a high-refractive index glass element to minimize chromatic aberration. When you combine this with the fast f/1.8 aperture and OPPO’s own OIS solution, the Find X8 Ultra’s primary camera becomes the best mobile camera on the market.
OPPO is utilizing two telephoto sensors on the Find X8 Ultra, just as it did on the Find X8 Pro from last year. There’s two 50-megapixel sensors here, with the 3x telephoto being a 1/1.56″ Sony LYT-700 sensor and the 6x sensor being the Sony LYT-600, which is 1/1.95″. This is a larger lens than what OPPO used on the Find X7 Ultra last year, along with a faster aperture of f/3.1. OPPO says that this new lens has increased light intake by 151%.
It’s not just the hardware that makes this camera setup special. OPPO also has its Next-Gen HyperTone Image Engine. This is the company’s own in-house computational photography that is designed to excel even in demanding lighting. Using AI tone mapping control, the Find X8 Ultra is able to deliver enhanced depth and detail, particularly in high-dynamic backlit portraits. Find X8 Ultra also introduces a new Hi-Res mode that will enable users to effortlessly capture 25MP photos on all four of its rear cameras.
Master Mode is also receiving a pretty big upgrade on the Find X8 Ultra. It now offers 50MP JPEG MAX and RAW MAX output, auto Night Mode support and includes Focus Magnifier and Focus Peaking. Making this an incredible phone for aspiring photographers.
Telemacro with 3x Periscope Telephoto Camera
With the OPPO Find N5 last month, the company debuted Telemacro. Essentially, it uses its telephoto camera to do macro shots. This is a nice upgrade versus using the ultrawide camera, as it allows you to physically be further away, instead of being up close and blocking the light. OPPO is doing Telemacro on the 3x Periscope Telephoto camera for the Find X8 Ultra, which is a pretty decent-sized sensor itself, at 1/1.56″.
OPPO says it is using its own exclusive “Super Blue Glass” that is able to further minimize glare and ghosting. Allowing the Find X8 Ultra to capture over 400% more light than the 3x telephoto camera from its competitor.
The 3x periscope telephoto sensor here is 300% larger than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, and 105% larger than the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Making for a pretty substantial increase in sensor size.
OPPO Ditches the Alert Slider, and makes the Thinnest Camera Phone
As was rumored, OPPO did opt to ditch the Alert Slider, starting with the Find X8 Ultra. Now we have a “Shortcut Button” which you can use to set a shortcut to a number of apps. OPPO also brought over its Quick Button from the Find X8 Pro. This is a capacitive button that acts as the iPhone’s Camera Control. But since it is capacitive, it doesn’t move the whole phone when you take a photo with it.
OPPO also made the Thinnest Camera Phone. The Find X8 Ultra measures in at just 8.78mm thick. That’s down from the 9.5mm thickness on Find X7 Ultra and quite a bit thinner than the Xiaomi 15 Ultra at 9.35mm (or 9.48mm on the vegan leather model). The company says that this is achieved by multiple internal innovations. OPPO redesigned the motherboard, it is also now 20% more efficient than the previous generation thanks to Snapdragon 8 Elite and OPPO’s new-generation silicon-carbon battery technology, which allows the company to add even more battery into such a slim chassis.
OPPO did not provide pricing and availability ahead of the announcement today. Once it is made public, we will update this article with that information.
