Move Your App! Developer Challenge Winner; Peter Ma!

Android is always about innovation, development, and growth. Most Android users and anyone who has read up on the OS knows that as well, and to help promote those ideals and friendly competition amongst its developers there are some challenge events that occur. Google has had a couple of it’s own and recently Snaptic and HopeLab co-hosted their own challenge, the Move Your App! Developer Challenge. In which developers were asked to create an application that encouraged physical activity and promote a healthy life-style to help fight the rising obesity rates, while also incorporating other applications as well because Android lends itself well and easily to itself and applications that it has.

Like all stories of innovation and success, it all starts with a random situation that you find yourself in and as well as many other people in the world except now you have a solution or a better way to deal with those situations that just happen and can’t be helped. Take for example the story of Peter, he was supposed to meet up with some friends for a game of basketball. And just like things tend to go with planned events, three people couldn’t make it at the last minute and the two remaining people didn’t have a ball to play the game with. So, taking matters into his own capable hands, Peter started to develop an application to help keep those committed to sports events/gatherings with friends or meeting others who are also in the same position; this also allows people to meet new people and to get to be able to play the sport that was planned.

As he was working on this application, Snaptic announced their challenge and invited him to join which was the push that Peter needed to be able to finalize his work-in progress and submit it. Incorporating Android’s ability to lend itself to applications and applications to one another, he was able to use his app Pickup Sports which makes it easier to log your events and if you keep tabs on how long you’ve been playing or working out through the 3banana note application. After the application was submitted and the winner was chosen, a surprised and deserving Peter found out that his application won the challenge.

Due to his winnings, Peter is now able to go to TED and present his application. TED is the Technology Entertainment Design private non-profit foundation that is devoted to “ideas worth spreading” and Peter will be attending the global conference in Oxford! Peter, we here at Android Headlines are proud that one of our readers and a well rounded developer such as yourself won the event. We wish you the best of luck in all of your endeavors and look forward to hearing about your experience at TED as well as more brilliant applications from you. Once again, from everyone here at Android Headlines congratulations and keep up the good work.

Taking time out of his day, Peter was able to participate in an interview and we are more than happy to share this winning dev and his app to the rest of the Android community. A review and the interview will be available in the next post here on AndroidHeadlines.com.
