First off, who names these things? Despite the silly name, this tablet is quite a super device. We heard a bit about this device previously, and it sounded pretty good. Engadget got an exclusive peak at this enviable device, and I want it now.
While we may never have heard of StreamTV, their eLocity A7 is a rebadged Compal NAZ-10 (again with the odd names!). It has a Tegra-2 720 SoC, which makes it fast! and capable of watching 1080p HD movies or gaming up a storm. The Tegra 2 is based on a 1 GHz Cortex A9 chipeset with NVIDIA’s own graphics chip. There is a front-facing 1.3 MP camera for video-conferencing, multi-touch, 512 MB RAM, an undisclosed amount of internal storage (rumors range from 4-32 GB), microSD card slot, HDMI-out, and 3G. The model they previewed had Android 2.1 but the device will ship with 2.2 when released in October. Unfortunately, these are not going to have the Android Market for apps, because of Google’s limitations. Instead they will ship with the GetJAR app store, which isn’t terrible, but certainly is not the behemoth that Android Market is becoming.
Amazon will be selling the device for a cool $399 starting September 3 for pre-order, and it comes with an HDMI cable and wireless keyboard in box.
