BoyGeniusReport got their hands on pictures of a new HTC handset for Verizon, which they presumed was a rumored world-capable Android smartphone. Now they’re wondering if this gorgeous aluminum techno-splendor is nothing other than the newly-announced HTC Desire HD. The announcement was in London, and there’s not been mention of the phone selling in the US.
The HTC product pages for the Desire HD suggest it’s a Europe/Asia/Pacific device, as it has HSPDA for 3G and GSM for 2G networks. Perhaps the (speculative) Verizon version would sport a different name, along with the CDMA protocol Big Red is known for. If it had them all, wouldn’t that be the best of all possible worlds?
Now, if you remember that leaked Verizon roadmap, there was one upcoming HTC Android device: the Merge. Is this it, and is that what the Desire HD will be called on this side of the pond? Have another look at the HTC Desire HD. Are they merely twins living on different continents?
And here’s the Verizon mystery HTC phone that everyone is calling the Merge.
I sure am suspecting the Merge and the Desire HD have quite a bit more in common than merely their manufacturer.
