Moto DROID 2 Recalled from Wal-Mart, D2 Global to Replace?

See that red square to the right in the photo above?  That’s where the Motorola DROID 2 used to sit in this Wal-Mart display for Verizon contract phones.  But the DROID 2 is no more at Wal-Mart, since their distributor, Brightstar, wants all the unsold DROID 2s back next Tuesday (the 26th of October).  Other than that, the recall was “nondescript.”

Since there have been rumors that the DROID 2 was going to be replaced by the not-yet-announced-but-we-all-know-it’s-coming DROID 2 Global, pulling the D2s suggests we’ll be seeing Globals for sale next week too.  The DROID 2 had a fairly low-key introduction compared to the splashy DROID X campaign.  Perhaps marketing will repeat itself and the Global will sneak onto shelf space while the big noise will be for the DROID Pro.

But the Wal-Mart recall itself is no rumor or speculation.  Have a look below at the Wal-Mart inventory gun, showing that the D2 is no more.  Looks like this Wal-Mart had four on hand, nothing in transit, in the warehouse, or on order.  The shelf capacity may be two, but that last line reads:  Optn DELETED/CREF. Indeed.
