Say goodbye to Comedy Central and MTV from your Google TV, because Viacom has blocked all their content from appearing on the service. It seems that most networks and content providers have agreed that it’s best to block Google TV so it doesn’t hurt their regular advertising revenues. These include Viacom, Disney, NBC and CBS so far.
Eric Schmidt has said at the Web 2.0 Summit that we shouldn’t worry much about this, because they are working on deals with them, so Google TV should be unblocked soon. Hopefully, Google deals with them by the time there will be an ARM version of Google TV, which should enable much cheaper set top boxes, and cheaper TV’s, too. Let’s not forget that Samsung will soon integrate Google TV into their new TV’s. I have a feeling they are waiting for the ARM version. Until then, people who have already bought Google TV can still be excited about theirs because it will soon have access to Android Market and all new Google TV apps.
