Thanks to a completely innocent question posed on twitter, now we know the Motorola XOOM will have an unlockable and lockable bootloader. This is unlike the Moto Atrix 4G, which seems to be in solitary confinement. Of course this doesn’t mean much for the general public, but for developers, it means a field day, with access to hardware and such for development and general toying around.
The screen capture, which you can see below, came from a twitter user simply asking @Motorola if the Xoom bootloader would be encrypted or signed. Just to add a fun fact to the story, it turns out @RobBull‘s mother is a Motorola vet, working some 29 years for the company.
Does a fully-customizable Motorola Xoom sound more appealing for the price you’ll need to pay? Would you still pick a XOOM regardless? Let us know what you think. And if you’re a dev with the Xoom itch, let us know what kinds of devious plans you have for the unlockable/lockable device.
