Android OS Upgrade Promised for LG Optimus Line
Google has committed to release new versions of Android every 6 months and we all like upgrades. The problem with this is that most of us agree to 2 year contracts when we purchase new phones. For the most part we make this purchase hoping we will be covered in the future but aren’t promised anything more than what our device ships with.
LG Optimus won’t Lock You Out
Most manufacturers, mainly Motorola and HTC, have had a good track records keeping their key devices up to date, but no one wants to be in a Samsung-like dilemma and not receive their update until well after the next version has been released. LG announced with a similar announcement to one made by Motorola that they will support their Optimus line with the next major OS version at the very least.
LG Optimus Expecatation
Kenneth Hong Director of Communications at LG stated: LG is committed to providing a clear upgrade path for owners of its Optimus smartphones. Just as we’ve confirmed an upgrade to Gingerbread for Optimus One, our expectation is to be able to offer at minimum a one-level upgrade for all Optimus smartphones introduced by LG in 2011 and beyond.
This is good news for all those debating which phone to purchase. Knowing your device is going to be supported makes it much easier to take the plunge.
What do you guys think about the recent statements from LG and Motorola to keep their devices up to date? Does it affect your purchase decision? Do you have a better opinion of the LG Optimus line with this commitment?
