Sprint Rumors for CTIA and Beyond include Motorola XOOM and Atrix 4G

Sprint is really rocking rumorville; we heard some rumors about big Sprint announcements at CTIA.  It looks like the successor to the EVO name, a Samsung Nexus S, and the HTC View (Sprint’s version of the HTC Flyer tablet) will all be announced next week.  We also saw something about an HTC Shooter being benchmarked.  Now, rumor has it that the pin-drop network is getting their own versions of the Motorola Xoom tablet and Atrix 4G superphone.

The rumor also states that Sprint will not be announcing these new Moto devices until next month, so as not to take away the glory of the CTIA announcements.

Same Devices, New Names Possible for Sprint Versions of Motorola Atrix 4G and Xoom

Back when we first heard rumors about the Atrix 4G (then called the Terminator) the rumors said that it would be coming to multiple carriers, so here it is coming to Sprint.  It looks as though AT&T got to have some exclusive alone time with the Atrix 4G, but that alone time is almost over.  Spreading the Atrix 4G out across many carriers makes sense for Motorola, as they spent a fortune in R&D on that thing.  However, this phone is probably not going to be called Atrix 4G because it seems like AT&T has trademarked that name.  It might look slightly different, but it has to fit into the laptop dock, so it cannot change much in form.

AT&T Owns Atrix name, Motorola owns Xoom, Kind of

While Motorola owns the Xoom trademark, that device might also launch with a different brand name.  You see, Motorola got slightly sued over using the name, because it belongs to the Xoom Corporation.  At the same time, Moto may have enough money to just pay it off.

Competing for Sprint Superphone Flagship are Motorola and HTC

This would make for two different dual core phones on Sprint.  On the one hand, there is the Tegra 2-powered Motorola Atrix 4G clone (with Sprint’s 4G WiMax network).  On the other hand, there is the EVO successor which looks to be an HTC phone with the as-yet untested Snapdragon dual core chipset clocked at 1.2 GHz per core.  Which do you want?  Which do you think will be Sprint’s new flagship?
