Thunderbolt Satisfies Your Need for Speed

HTC Thunderbolt Overclocked, Takes on all Comers

The HTC Thunderbolt 4G Android phone from Verizon Wireless has been commanding attention since its March 17th debut. Now, developer Derek Rodriguez (@drod2169) has given us yet one more thing to love about it – lightning fast processor speed. Rodriguez has created a kernel that boasts a processor (CPU) speed of up to 1.8 GHz.

But, wait, there’s more! When @TheRealBeesley ran it through Quadrant, a CPU, I/O, and 3D graphics benchmark app, the results were mindboggling. So, if you were looking for that “wow factor” and you haven’t already seen it in the Thunderbolt, here it is. Nothing else even comes close.

Of course, all that glitters…. you know the rest of the old adage. Some things are just too good to be true. In this case, although impressive, clocking your CPU at 1.8 GHz probably isn’t the best idea. Even Rodriguez says that “it was for fun” and that he wouldn’t let his phone sit at that speed. What a tease! Just when we were starting to get our hopes up for that break-neck speed.

Thunderbolt will Strike Again

But, not to worry, at least now we can bask in the glory of the amazing capacity of the Thunderbolt. Just knowing the potential that lies in this device makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The bragging rights are ours, fellow Android lovers. Maybe, just maybe, this is a foreshadowing of what is yet to come. The hardware is quite obviously up to the task and the kernel source code required for future development is already available. I see more satisfaction in our future, ladies and gentlemen.
