The US launch situation for Samsung’s Galaxy S flagship phones is certainly a lot better than it was a year ago, when users had to wait many months to get it in US after the global launch of the Galaxy S2. Even so, the Galaxy S3 launch in US is not perfect. The phone should’ve launched more than a week ago on some US carriers, which was still a month later than the global launch, but it seems it got delayed by a couple of weeks, and we now know that it’s launching on Verizon on July 10th, next week.
The Galaxy S3 is one of the very best or the best smartphone in the market right now, thanks to its impressive hardware and specs, although some may be disappointed by the replacement of the quad core Cortex A9 processor with Qualcomm’s next-gen dual core S4 processor, which is the only chip that comes integrated with LTE right now. This was also one of the reasons for the delays, as the S4 is a chip in high-demand and short supply. Another reason for the delays has been the faulty pebble-blue body of the Galaxy S3.
Other specs include:
- 16 / 32GB Internal storage memory
- SD Card slot to expand memory to 64 GB
- 4.8″ Super AMOLED display
- 8 megapixel camera
- 1080p video recording at 60fps
- 2100 mAh battery
- NFC Chip
- Ice Cream Sandwich OS – 4.0.4 version
Unfortunately, the Android 4.0 OS is changed quite a lot by Samsung thanks to their new Touchwiz skin, which should make it harder for them to update the device to the JellyBean version of Android, which has just been announced at Google I/O. If you really care about the latest version of Android, and getting it as fast as possible you might want to get the $350 unlocked Galaxy Nexus (GSM only) or wait for the multiple Nexus devices that will arrive with Android 5.0 this November.
