While Samsung is in the midst of a battle with Apple today and over the next month, that’s not stopping them from keeping things moving along at a nice clip. One of those things is launching new smartphones with the Galaxy Beam now available in the UK market. There is currently no word on a US release so we’ll see if the Beam makes it here to the states.
What makes the Galaxy Beam different and unique from other smartphones currently available is the fact that it has a Pico projector built-in. What exactly is a Pico projector? Basically, think of a standard projector, but many times smaller, in this case small enough to fit on the very end of a phone. The Pico projector built-into the Samsung Galaxy Beam can output an image or video up to the size of 50 inches which isn’t bad at all.
Here’s the specs of the phone:
- 4 Inch WVGA Super AMOLED Display at 480×800
- Pico projector (of course)
- 1GHZ dual-core processor
- 768MB RAM
- ARM Mali-400 GPU
- 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with 720p video support
- 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera
- 8GB internal storage with microSD card support up to 32GB
- Android Gingerbread 2.3.6
- 1800mAh battery
The Galaxy Beam is currently available for £384.99 unlocked on Expansys. They claim you can stream content through the Pico projector for up to 3 hours. The projector concept is an interesting one and isn’t geared just towards business users in the case of the Galaxy Beam, but also the average person who just wants to share something cool with their friends or family.
