If you’re a big fan of stock Android – just like me – then more often than not the only new phone you’re going to care about is the next Nexus. What’s in the next Nexus, what the newest version of Android is going to bring and how quickly you can get the next Nexus. If you’re a big Nexus fan then you’re going to love this latest rumor that’s doing the rounds. Once again, the folks over at SamMobile have gotten information of Samsung’s upcoming line up and in amongst these is a phone with the model number, i9260.
That model number should ring some bells if you’re a Nexus user, as the model number for the Galaxy Nexus is i9250. In keeping with Samsung’s trend of keeping model numbers similar for similar devices, this could well be a close cousin of the Galaxy Nexus. The device is currently codenamed ‘Superior’ and packs some extras compared to the Galaxy Nexus, with a 4.65″ Super AMOLED HD display, a 1.5 Ghz dual-core Cortex A9 CPU, an 8 Megapixel camera round back and a 1.9 Megapixel camera at the front. Those three specs are a bit of a bump over last year’s Nexus, which shipped with a dual-core 1.2Ghz Cortex A9, a meagre 5 Megapixel camera round back and a 1.3 Megapixel camera facing you. The lower end camera on the G. Nex must certainly be the weakest aspect of the device as there’s certainly nothing wrong with dual-core devices but, mobile photography continues to rocket.
What’s interesting about this is that the i9260 doesn’t scream high-end by any means and with Google more than likely looking to throw out another flagship Nexus this could well become one of the five Nexus devices that are rumored to be launching in the fall. If this is to be Samsung’s entry in to the five or so devices then it could well mean for the first time in two years now, that another manufacturer would be getting a shot at building the next Android king. I don’t think HTC would mind building the next Nexus, they could do with the cash, right?
