Flip phones used to be the coolest thing since the Nokia brick. I remember when the original Motorola RAZR came out and you were the coolest person around if you had one. Pink seemed to be a popular choice among the ladies.
While smartphones have pretty much rendered flip phones obsolete, Samsung apparently looks to make a comeback or at least see what can be done with a new concept. The SCH-W2013 isn’t just an ordinary flip phone however. It’s packing quad-core power.
We’re not sure where they’re going with this, but the phone was spotted getting certified in China and judging by the model number, it’ll be out next year. Here’s what we know when it comes to the specs:
- 3.3 inch AMOLED display at 800 x 480
- 1.4 GHz Exynos 4412 quad-core processor
- 2GB RAM
- microSD card support
- Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0
- 8 megapixel rear-facing camera
- 2 megapixel front-facing camera
- Android 4.0 ICS (though could be upgraded before launch)
This is said to be a China only phone. Because it has such hardware, the phone is rather thick at 17mm. Honestly though, to fit all that into a flip phone body, you couldn’t get it too small. My big question is how big is the battery? Maybe that’s why it’s so thick because to power something of this nature, you’re gonna need a larger battery.
