E Ink technology has existed for years and years and most notably has been used in different e-readers of all sizes. Amazon was one company that really helped pave the way and allowed them to become the market leader when it came to e-reading devices.
The technology itself is okay when reading text, but as far as its speed and lack of color, it’s not exactly the best display for a phone. Or is it? A company by the name of Onyx International has created an Android phone with an E Ink display and get this: It’ll last you up to one week on one charge.
Bold claim, that’s for sure. Let’s get into the specs…oh, wait. There aren’t any specs. The hardware is currently kept under wraps, but as far as the processor, it’s rumored that it’ll have a Qualcomm MSM7227A which is a single-core processor and up to 1GHZ. If anyone is expecting the latest build of Android, well, it’ll be rocking 2.3 Gingerbread.
This whole concept seems to be just that: A concept. Onyx is just toying around with the idea and seeing what can come of it. Even though the phone won’t be super powered, an almost one week battery life is pretty impressive. Check out the video of the E Ink phone below and let us know what you think in the comments:
