Isis Mobile Wallet is ready to show that Google is not the only game in town, and Isis looks like they will be ready to thrown down the gauntlet as early as October 22nd for the Salt Lake City, UT and Austin, TX markets according to a leaked internal document from an anonymous source.
The document gives a full breakdown of what Isis users and merchants can expect. “Isis ready devices” will be able to spend money from users’ credit cards and their Isis Cash cards ($10 credit on the virtual card). Users can also expect coupons and deals as well as loyalty cards for some vendors.
It will be interesting to see how widespread the participation is from both users and vendors in the test markets. The other point to ponder coming out of this is how increased competition will shape mobile users’ shopping habits. If a user only spends money through Isis instead of Google, will she specifically pick out stores that have the same technology? Maybe not for big purchases, but it could be the difference between which drug store or gas station she stops at for little purchases.
We’ll have to see. Isis has some pretty big relationships already set up, so they’re ready to make a go of it.
