If you haven’t heard of Maluuba yet, it just launched earlier this year to a handful of countries. The interactive assistant app is ready to make the jump with the launch of the Maluuba International edition.
If you happen to live in one of the originally supported markets for the app, you’ll have the full version available to you in the Google Play store (or the Vodafone store for those keeping score). If you live outside the U.S., Canada, U.K., or Australia, then you’ll get access to the International Version.
The Maluuba team is really ready to expand, and the company is pushing for a new round of funding now. They’d like to pull together between $8 and $10 million in order to expand the team that they were able to build with $2 million from Samsung Ventures.
You might think it would be simpler to broaden the options of the standard Maluuba app rather than creating an international version, but the service relies heavily on local content partners. Business review services like Yelp aren’t available in all countries, so Maluuba seeks to sync with available data. Maluuba CEO Sam Pasupalak stated the app has been in demand internationally since it was first launched, and the company has plans to expand the number of supported languages beyond just English by early next year.
Languages and markets are far from the only pieces in the works. Maluuba is set to offer an API for developers to better interact with the service, and the app is seeking to add features like restaurant reservations and shopping and sports updates. Each of these additional features creates opportunities for the service to become more profitable in the future.
