You’ve got big ones and you’ve got small ones. Mobile displays have gotten significantly better over the years with the likes of vibrant, rich displays, with even full HD displays coming very soon. Sharp has been working on a new technology by the name of IGZO.
What does IGZO stand for? The new technology is named after the indium gallium zinc oxide semiconductor on which it uses. Yeah, would be a bit too long of a name if it wasn’t turned into an acronym. So far, just two devices have been announced that feature an IGZO display and Sharp executive Masami Ohbatake says that more devices will come it soon.
One such device is the Sharp Aquos Pad SHT21 who’s display is 1280 x 800 and the other, this time a phone, is the Aquos Phone Zeta SH-02E which has a 4.9 inch display that clocks in at 1280 x 720. Okay, a new phone and tablet that has this new display technology. What’s so great about it?
Well, how about significantly improved battery consumption? Sharp claims the ability to almost triple battery life which is pretty crazy. However, considering that the screen is typically the largest consumer of power, this increase may not be that difficult to come by.
In fact, the Aquos Phone Zeta can last two days under normal usage on one charge. And no, the Zeta doesn’t have some measly single-core specs, but packs a 1.5GHZ Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, Adreno 320 GPU, and LTE, all powered by a 2,320 mAh battery.
I don’t know about you, but I’m all for a less battery intensive display, even if it may not potentially be the best resolution display out there. What about you?
