Android Gaming Console OUYA Looking For Developers, Kits Available To Pre-Order Now

We haven’t really talked about OUYA in the last couple months, but back in August, the company behind what’s said to be the next generation gaming console and is powered by Android, appeared virtually out of thin air.

Starting a up a Kickstarter campaign with a very intriguing video, they needed $950,000 to successfully fund the project. Well, OUYA did a heck of a lot better than that and after 30 days, had raised an amazing $8.5 million. The actual console itself isn’t going to ship until April 2013, but for developers, you can get your hands on it here very soon.

At a cost of $800, the developer kit includes one console, two controllers, and their ODK. It’s expected to ship in January so you’ll get it a few months ahead of the official release to test your games and get them running smoothly.

It’s a bit pricey, but considering that OUYA will cost just $139.99 with two controllers, including shipping, it really has a chance to take off. Their biggest hurdle right now is making sure they can handle the demand and get enough developers creating fun and engaging games.

If you’re interested in grabbing a development kit, you can pre-order here.
