It’s time for a battery of the non-removable battery and no expandable storage devices. We’ve got in one corner the new Google Nexus 4 (built by LG) going up against the quad-core beast that is the HTC One X. This is going to be a good one boys and girls so make sure you stay tuned.

Ah, the Google Nexus 4. The phone that had so much hype up until it’s announcement on October 29th. While it did live up to the hype somewhat, others are still disappointed at the lack of LTE. But when you have speeds on HSPA+ up to 42mbps, who really needs LTE? That and it’s a Nexus with that quad-core beast of a processor the Snapdragon S4 Pro. Oh and did I mention updates straight from Google? No “where’s my %&*&^ update?” with this device.
Pro’s
- It’s a Nexus! I’ve said this many times before, but after owning several devices that the manufacturers basically gave the middle finger too, it’s important to me to get a Nexus so I can have the latest Android goodness
- Powerful quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro and 2GB of RAM so you can run “All the Things!”
- Sizeable battery compared to other non-removable batteries
Con’s
- No LTE for those on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, along with various other carriers worldwide
- No expandable storage; So you’re stuck with 8GB (~5GB) or 16GB (~13GB)
- Feels cheap; many say it feels and looks cheap, and it’s made of plastic. So are many other high-end devices.
HTC One X
Many of you know that I am a huge fan of HTC devices. I have owned several of them in my Android lifetime. Including the EVO 4G, EVO 3D, and the EVO 4G LTE. There’s no doubt about HTC’s quality, the make premium devices that feel like they are made from premium materials. But somehow they are still in deep financial trouble. The One X was announced back in Mobile World Congress this past February and was one of the first quad-core devices on the market.
Pro’s
- 4.7″ Super IPS LCD2 display is one of the most beautiful displays I’ve ever seen on a mobile device
- Beats Audio and Sense 4; Many people hate manufacturers skins. I am one of those, but Sense 4 is actually pretty great, and Beats Audio is now integrated with almost everything.
Con’s
- Non-removable battery; It would be great if it was a larger battery too, like 2100mAh or larger so you can get through the day
- S-Off; those of you who like to root and ROM will hate this device. Because there is no way to S-Off yet, flashing a new ROM takes much longer than it should.
Winner…..
I’d have to say the Nexus 4 is the hands down winner here. While yes the HTC One X is a beautiful device, and Sense 4 is paired down quite a bit compared to previous versions, it’s still not stock Android. Which means updates are far away. The Nexus 4 will get updates within days of Google releasing them, not within months or years. So if you have the choice between these two devices, pick up the Nexus 4. It’ll be worth your money, trust me!
