It’s time for another round of Phone Wars, this time we’ve got the newest member of the Motorola DROID family, the DROID RAZR MAXX HD with its huge 3300mAh battery running Ice Cream Sandwich. It’ll be going up against the Google Nexus 4 built by LG with it’s powerful Quad-Core Snapdragon S4 Pro running Jelly Bean (Android 4.2). So buckle up and let’s get ready to begin.
Specifications
DROID RAZR MAXX HD
Anyone else getting tired of the DROID branding from Verizon? The Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD is a great device, it does have some special features but the one that is marketed for is the battery. It has a massive 3300mAh battery inside. Even with LTE on and being used, the MAXX HD can last close to two days before you’ll need to recharge it. It is a Motorola device, which means it is skinned. But honestly, Motorola’s skins have been getting much better. When you first look at the device, it looks like stock Android. There are a few tweaks Motorola have added, like actionable shortcuts on the home screen. Which are pretty cool.
Pro’s
- Best Battery life on the market; Boasting 32 hours of talk time
- Motorola’s new skin; Not sure what they are calling it nowadays, but it much better than the blur we know from the Bionic, original RAZR’s and other older Motorola devices
Con’s
- Older specs; while it’ll last you all day, it is also running older spec’s which might be a problem for Android OS upgrades in the future
- RAM; Yes it has 1GB, but lately phones have been coming out with 2GB of RAM. Including the Optimus G, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, and the Google Nexus 4.
Google Nexus 4
It’s been argued that this is the best Android phone out right now. With its Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and 2GB of RAM, it’s kind of hard not to agree. Not to mention it comes with Android 4.2, which has been optimized for the Nexus 4, and it’ll get updates directly from Google. No carrier involvement. So how can it compete with the DROID RAZR MAXX HD?
Pro’s
- Nexus! It’ll always be running the current version of Android, with no interference from carriers
- Fast Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5GHz, along with 2GB of RAM. Capable of all your multi-tasking needs
- Gorgeous 4.7″ IPS display
Con’s
- Non-removable battery
- No LTE
- No expandable storage; You’re stuck with 8 or 16GB
Winner?
This is kind of a tough one. But I’d have to say it’s the Nexus 4. If the DROID RAZR MAXX HD had better specs other than the battery size, I’d say the MAXX HD would be the winner. But with almost a year old specs on a device that’s not even a month old yet, that’s hard to do. If you don’t mind not having LTE, then go ahead and pick up the Nexus 4, but if you need those LTE speeds then I guess you have no choice than to pick up the DROID RAZR MAXX HD. But as we say in every Phone War, the final decision is up to you. It’s your money, it’s your phone, it’s your decision.
