Sony's Xperia Z Goes up for Pre-Order in the UK for under £500

Most of the retailers in the UK are expecting to start shipping the Sony Xperia Z on March 1. There are a few which are saying that it’ll be available on February 28th. Just one day earlier. So for those you that are really excited about this device and can’t wait to get your hands on it, that one day can seem like a lifetime.

Handtec is one of the retailers that might be shipping the Xperia Z on February 28th. Handtec also seems to be the only one taking pre-orders for the Xperia Z. They are asking for  £497.99 for the Xperia Z. Not to bad considering the prices we’ve seen elsewhere. In case you forgot, here are the specs for the Xperia Z which was announced at CES:

  • 5-inch 1080p display
  • Quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 pro processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 13MP rear-facing camera; 2.2MP front-facing camera
  • 16GB internal storage; expandable via micro SD card
  • Android 4.1
  • Battery 2330mAh
  • 4G LTE connectivity
  • Dust proof and Water resistant
  • Sony Bravia Engine 2 included for super brightness and clarity

So far none of the US carriers have said anything about carrying the Xperia Z, but if the past has taught us anything. I’d expect it to be available on AT&T. In the past, Sony devices have been basically an AT&T exclusive, unfortunately for Sony that doesn’t give them as many sales as they could have. Hopefully they’ve learned from that mistake and will have this device on more than just AT&T in the US.

We do expect to see the Xperia Z show its face at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month at Sony’s booth, along with all the other devices they’ll have on display. There’s also another device that Sony is expected to announce in Barcelona, but we’ll have to wait and see about that one.

Who’s excited about the Xperia Z? Who’s placing their pre-order now? Let us know in the comments below.
