Last year, Chameleon launcher for tablets got a ton of attention and was one of the most successful Kickstarter projects ever. It was released last fall for tablets and was on sale for $10. Which is kinda steep for most people but a lot of people still bought it. Chameleon Launcher has a widget centric UI which is also probably not for everyone. There’s also been a lot of talk lately about Chameleon coming to phones. There’s also been talk about Teknision recruiting some testers for a private alpha version. So exactly how well will it work on a phone?
Now some of that curiosity is gone, as on their developer blog they have shared the video shown below. Which shows off how Chameleon will work on phones. It actually looks pretty interesting and it’ll probably surprise many of you as to how well the launcher transitions to a smaller screen. In the video, they show it running on the Galaxy Note 2 and the Nexus 4. So two different screen sizes to highlight features such as a scrollable app tray and folders.
To skip the part about Chameleon on your phone, you’ll need to skip ahead to 1:52, as the beginning is talking about some changes to the tablet version of Chameleon. Right now the Chameleon Launcher for phones is still in private alpha , but Teknision is looking to get a public beta out to their Kickstart supporters very soon. Also Teknision is in Las Vegas now at CES showing off their cool new product.
Who has already checked out Chameleon launcher on their tablet? I tried it on my Nexus 7, and it just wasn’t for me, but that was on one of the first public releases in the Play Store.
