We’ve had quite a history here at Android Headlines with the Sony Xperia SP (C530X), also codenamed the “HuaShan”. Personally, I think they could have come up with a better codename for the thing, but that’s beside the point.
It’s rumored to be a mid-level device, packed with a dual-core processor and a 720p HD screen. As for the other specs and features, well we’ll get to those in just a little bit.
Some additional details cropped up today that involve the actual build of the phone. More specifically, it appears that the Xperia SP will include an aluminum housing around the edges, with a plastic back. It’s certainly an unusual design, mixing the aluminum and plastic, but obviously Sony thinks it’s going to work out for the best.
Interestingly enough, there appears to be a transparent bar, or tray of sorts that can be customized to show different notifications. According to sources, the customizable element will be similar to what was implemented on the Xperia U.
Since I also promised to talk about the rest of the specs, now would be a good time to lay them out for you:
- 4.6-inch HD display
- 1.7GHz dual-core processor, Snapdragon S4 Pro
- Adreno 320 graphics chipset
- 8MP Exmor RS camera sensor
- 8GB of internal storage with MicroSD expansion slot
- Total weight of 155 grams
- Dimensions: 130.6 x 67.1 x 9.98mm
This information, by the way, came from Xperia Blog, who apparently claims to have a “trusted source.” We all know how information like this can go any which way, so we’ll have to retain any guarantees until Sony makes a formal reveal.
Even though, Sony isn’t holding a press conference this year at MWC, I expect to see a lot more information about the Xperia SP, and the rest of its 2013 lineup, in the coming week. In the past, Sony has traditionally unveiled many of its mid-level devices at MWC.
I will say that Sony’s latest devices are looking real nice. I wouldn’t be surprised if the SP turned out to include dust and water proof certifications because that seems to be a hot trend lately.
