It’s now time to put the HTC One against the Google Nexus 4. We’ve got a beautiful 4.7-inch 1080p display vs a 4.7-inch 720p display. The Specs between these are pretty similar, only real differences are the updated processor in the HTC One, more internal storage in the One and stock Android on the Nexus 4. But let’s put them through our tests and see which one comes out on top.
Specifications
HTC One
The HTC One is a beautiful device. That shouldn’t surprise you since it is an HTC phone. They have been making great looking devices since I can remember. With the HTC One, HTC has introduced “New Sense” which is basically Sense 5. But if you say it fast it’s “nuisance”. HTC added some cool new features in New Sense like HTC Zoe, HTC Boomsound, BlinkFeed and there are so many others. Which you can check in our breakdown from the HTC event announcing the HTC One.
Then on the hardware side you’ve got that beautiful (that might be an understatement) 4.7-inch 1080p display. That’s the highest resolution display available at that size. It has more pixels per inch than any other device right now. Take that Apple fans! The HTC One also has dual front-facing speakers, which give you that boomsound effect, although HTC probably should have worked harder on naming it. Now on the back you’ve got the 4 ultrapixel camera. Now most people will think 4MP, and think that’s crap for a 2013 flagship. From the pictures I’ve seen taken with it, the ultrapixel camera seems to do as well as these 8MP and 13MP camera’s out here, if not better.
Pros:
- Coming to most carriers in the US; AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile (at the time of writing this)
- Amazing Camera and features
- New Sense is even more scaled back than before
Cons:
- Non-removable battery; Not a big deal for me, personally
- Sense; There are those out there that can’t stand Sense, and prefer stock Android
Google Nexus 4
The Nexus 4, which is Google’s latest phone to run stock Android. It was released last November at an incredible price of $299/349 unlocked. It’s running Android 4.2.2 which has many new features like Photosphere, quick settings, and more. It’ll also be one of the first devices to get Key Lime Pie after Google I/O in May. LG made the Nexus 4 look a lot like Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus, but they made some changes that were very necessary.
On the hardware side we’ve got a nice 720p display which is a bit of a weird resolution 768×1280. That’s mostly due to the on-screen buttons. Then on the back you’ve got glass (not the best part of the phone) with a type of glittery pattern there. It’s actually quite cool. But the Nexus 4 also has a much improved camera over its predecessor the Galaxy Nexus.
Pros:
- Running Stock Android & Will get fast updates
- Very cheap and affordable; $299/349 unlocked from Google Play
- Huge development community
Cons:
- Only available on GSM carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T
- Only 8GB and 16GB configurations
Winner
This is a hard one. Like I said both devices have pretty good advantages to them. It was even a bit hard to find some disadvantages. As an owner of the Nexus 4, and probably future owner of the HTC One, I’m going to have to say the HTC One has won this time. As much as I love stock Android and my Nexus 4. I also love HTC’s build quality, and the fact that I can get a 1080p display in a 4.7-inch form factor. Then HTC’s camera technology is just icing on the cake. So my choice is the HTC One, but what’s yours?
