New X Phone Rumors: Always Connected to Chrome, Casing Choices include Wood, and More

Okay, before we get started with this. This is a RUMOR. Which means this stuff might be true, it might not be. Do not take this information as being confirmed because it has not been confirmed. This information is also coming from Android and Me. Now we all remember what happened last year with the Nexus 4 and Android 4.2 rumors that originated with Android and Me, right? So please keep that in mind. Okay, let’s see what kind of juicy rumors we have here.

Lately, we have seen so many rumors regarding the X Phone. From customizations, to delays, to everything in between. Here’s what this batch of rumors has to say.

The first rumor coming out is “the first ‘X Phone’ is scheduled to launch the first week of August, and another delay is unlikely. AT&T will have an exclusive launch period of three months and then it will appear on other carriers in November.” Another exclusive? Come on Google, didn’t you learn anything from Giving Verizon an exclusive Galaxy Nexus back in 2011?

Next “The ‘X Phone’ will feature an always on listening mode that allows users to issue it voice commands and wake up the device.” Now this could be true. Qualcomm already announced their always-on “voice activation” feature. Which sounds a lot like this and will be part of their Snapdragon 800 processor.

Next rumor “The ‘X Phone’ will feature predictive intelligence that is able to launch applications and commands based on how you hold and use the device.” Okay, I’m not sure how to feel about this. I’m going to go ahead and say this is false. But if it is true, I doubt it’ll work the way the source is hyping it up to work.

Rumor “The ‘X Phone’ will be ‘always connected’ to the Google Chrome Browser.” Okay, this I can see happening. Especially with Chrome OS boss Sundar Pichai taking over Android. We expected closer integration with Android and Chrome OS. So this wouldn’t be surprising to me.

Final rumor “As previously reported, consumers will be able to customize their phones with a number of different materials for the outer casing. A new option just added includes wood. An array of color and materials will produce thousands of custom combinations.” This, I’m going to go out and say that it will not happen. Who would want their phone cased in wood, seriously? We did see a rumor that the X Phone would be available in 20 colors, but I highly doubt we’ll see it in wood.

Final Thoughts

These are some interesting rumors. Most of which I believe are false. But like I said in the beginning of the post, these are rumors and are not confirmed so make sure you read this all with a truck full of salt. But the Chrome “Always on” rumor sounds pretty cool, I don’t know how everyone else feels about that. Some might be creeped out by it.
