We’re already seeing the Snapdragon 600 processor showing up in flagship devices like the Galaxy S4, HTC One and LG’s Optimus G Pro (which should be announced next week for the US). Back at CES in Las Vegas, Qualcomm showed off the Snapdragon 800 as well (and a few processors for mid-range devices). Right now, Qualcomm is having a media workshop in Beijing, and they let out some more details of their high-end processor that has Quick Charge.
Today, Qualcomm’s Senior Product Manager Yufei Wang, confirmed that the Snapdragon 800 will start mass production in late May. Which would put the processor in devices coming out this fall. Which is what we heard at their keynote at CES earlier this year. Wang did decline to comment on which devices would be using the Snapdragon 800. But I’m sure the LG Optimus G2, possibly another HTC flagship and probably a few devices from ZTE and Huawei would utilize this chip.
Compared to the Snapdragon 600, the Snapdragon 800 has a Krait 400 architecture, which means the chip can be clocked as high as 2.3GHz. But like with other quad-core chips the four cores on the Snapdragon 800 are also clocked asynchronously for better power management. The Snapdragon 800 also features the Adreno 330 Graphics processor with 30fps 4k playback capability. It also features the Adreno 320 FlexRender technology, which allows it to dynamically switch between direct rendering and binning rendering for optimized performance and efficiency.
We’ll definitely go over more about this Snapdragon 800 when it finally launches later this year, you can also check out our post about the Snapdragon 600 and 800 from January. Where we go over everything about these two processors. The Snapdragon 800 is definitely a beast and with Quick Charge 2.0, it’s going to be a chip we all want. Especially if we can’t get Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa in our next device.
