T-Mobile's Q1 Earnings Are In; They've Added 579,000 New Customers

T-Mobile has been trying to turn themselves around lately, since Q4 they lost quite a bit of customers. Now after Q1 of 2013, they’ve added just about everyone that left in Q4 2012. Last night, T-Mobile announced their preliminary Q1 results. They gained 579,000 customers in the first quarter to give them a total of 34 million customers. Back in Q4 they lost about 349,000 customers. So it looks like their unlimited data plans are bringing in customers. Since their new UNcarrier changes weren’t really in effect for Q1, we’ll have to wait until July to find out how well they do as the UNcarrier.

John Legere, T-Mobile’s CEO spoke about these earnings:

“These results display positive momentum and the first positive branded growth in four years,”

“We have made material progress in stabilizing our branded business in Q1, which provides a solid foundation to build on with the new Un-carrier customer offers we launched last week across America.”

As a T-Mobile customer, I’m glad to see their subscribers rising. I know I’ve sent a good number of people over to team magenta recently. I’m excited to see how all this plays out for the next quarter where their UNcarrier changes will really be taking effect.

T-Mobile also stated that their customer deactivation rate was 1.9% which is the lowest it’s been since 2008. So it appears, quite a bit of customers are happy with T-Mobile now. I know I am, I just hope they can expand their coverage so more customers can enjoy their service and new rate plans. Especially since unlimited data is pretty hard to come by right now. Only Sprint and T-Mobile offer it currently. And Sprint has a very slow 3G network and is pretty far behind on its LTE network.

How many of our readers are T-Mobile subscribers? According to our poll last week, about 30% of you are. Wouldn’t you love to see T-Mobile catch up to Verizon, AT&T, and even Sprint in the race to the number one wireless carrier? Let us know in the comments below.
